Habitat - Indoor :: Need new tank? Ideas?

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Hello! We've been low on money lately... Sadly, my 3 inch turtle has far out grown his 10 gallon tank and I don't have the money to buy a larger tank. We do have a 55 gallon in the house but it is currently housing my 10 fish (5 mollies and 5 goldfish) It's basically an experiment tank... I wanted to try and see if mollies (a tropical fish) could live with my common and comet goldfish (cold water fish).

So, for the longest time Skit wasn't eating. It was around 4 months or more that he didn't eat. Now that he is, he's growing way too fast for me to keep up.

Does anyone know of a cheep place I can get some of them rubbermaid storage containers? I'm going to do some looking around and see what I can come up with and I thought I could use the extra help. I wish we had the money to get another 55 gallon but we still need to get a proper filter for the one we have... All it has right now is a 30 gallon filter and it needs something much larger....

Please help!

If you're in the us, Walmart or any of the large hardware stores.

As for aquariums, try Craigslist. Sometimes you can find them on there free or super cheap. There was a free 75 gal tank (no stand) on the Chicago Craigslist yesterday.

Also not as cheap as the options above, but petco is currently having a $1/gallon sale right now. It's usually good up to 55 gallon tanks.

Okay, I was thinking maybe one of those little kiddie pools. I found one at walmart that says it holds 258 gallons of water for just about $12. The only problem is I might have to keep him outside.... So, any ideas on how to keep the birds and other creatures out of the pool?

VelpaCray, I don't think I'd trust that free 75 gallon tank... I got our 55 gallon for $25 dollars and it leaked... :( I still does, but it's a small leak and take a week or two to show up... I'd go to PetCo but there are no Petcos around where I live in Northern Michigan... :(

yeah but you can get a tube of aquarium silicone for $10 and fix a potentially leaky free tank. :D What you can't do is fix broken glass or cracked rims... if it's just a leak in a seam.... it's an easy overnight fix.

How to keep birds and critters out is the trick. Try posting that question in the outdoor forum - you may get a better response there.

Good idea... We have some silicone stuff but we don't have enough to do the whole tank. We decided to wait and see if the leak pops up again. I'll try asking around in the outdoor forum. Thanks :)

You don't want to use just any silicone... many of them contain mold inhibiting chemicals that could poison the water. it's best to use a tube of aquarium silicone.... most pet stores carry it or online.
