RES Setup

Hello everyone I currently upgraded to a 55 gallon tank which will house a 6" and a 3" res. I currently have a fluval 406 canister filter and a aqua clear 70 filter as well. I was wondering if a sump would be a good idea to add on for filtration. I just ordered in a stand that would fit the sump perfectly but I wanted to get other opinions if I should get a sump or not. Any generous feedback would be appreciated thank you.

Turtles produce so much waste so quickly, I don't know if a sump, unless it's impractically huge, would really help. I'd just use that sump area maybe more as a refugium to grow live plant or live feeder food for the turtles instead.

I was thinking the same thing I just wanted to get the maximum filtration as possible. Any other suggestions to add to the fluvial 406 and aqua clear 70? Or should that be fine for a 55 gal?

i have a sump system, and it clears up grate. it filters 1600 l/h (422 gallons). i built it myself and it's not a usual looking sump but it does the job grate. i never used canister filters but the advantage of a sump is that you can customize it for your exact needs.

azazeal can you post some pictures and information about your sump?
If your water parameters are good then stick with the Fluval 406 + AC 70 combo, with 2 turtles you probably just have to clean the filter more often. I use a similarly spec'ed Rena Filstar XP3 and I clean it maybe once every 2-3 months. You can always add another canister filter if you have the space.
