my res flash has a problem of wrecking my tank. he just gos nuts flipping the rocks and pulling on hoses. he realy like to sling my skull around the tank. and plants alive or fake he snaches them up. he broke the first two in tank filters i had. witch really wasnt a problem becouse i need to get a bigger on. and i notice he does this if no one is at home for a whaile. and i mean awhile is like 12 or more hours.
he seams happy. hes healthy. oh and i know its not he just doesnt like the things in the tank becouse i took them all out and thats when he broke my heater and somhow pulled the floating dock of the side of the tank. but if im home or gone just for work then come home the tanks fine. really i find it funny i have stoped putting things were i want them and let him place them were he wants them

Hey there. I had that problem with my turtles. They constantly wreck ANYTHING I put into the tank. Then I decided to just let them do what they want and put in a couple of marbles (they're bigger than the turtle's head and unswallowable) and they just push those around all day to where they want. They will dig up plants (fake or real), sand, rocks, whatever just for the search of food. I replaced River rocks with sand because they keep me awake at night with constantly lifting the rock up and dropping them.
Turtles can get bored and will do things to be unbored. Mines spend their time all day piling up sand, moving marbles, and moving fake plants. Hope this helps you. :)

Bored.
Yes.
Penelope used to tear live plants to shreds. I tried fake logs and she she chewed them. I gave up on rocks when one put a spider crack in the bottom, then she found fun her fun by beating up the heater (in retrospect I think she was using it as a ladder to escape).
I bought her some fake bamboo a few months ago. I have had her for a bit over 5 years and this this the first - and only - thing that has kept her constructively occupied. She seems to love hiding in the "brush," dragging it around and playing in it. So, if tearing up the tank is making you insane, maybe something simple like a fun place to hide and drag around might work. Just a thought.

My turtle only goes nuts when it's feeding time. He reminds me EVERYDAY! He's not destructive but when I see him fanning the front glass, I know what he wants.

LOL - She knows when it's feeding time better than I do. If I didn't know better, I'd think she had an alarm to indicate DINNER-TIME!!!
Quite funny
