Habitat - Indoor :: UVB question.

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

I found a ZooMed fluorescent hood style bulb and hood on Craigslist for $5. Times are tough right now, so instead of going to PetCo and buying a new one, I've resorted to CL. My question is, will the hood style bulb work? It is a 15W bulb. Also, normally, how long are these bulbs? I'm making an ATBA as we speak, and I'm not quite sure how I am going to incorporate my dome style basking bulb with this hood style UVB bulb. Any suggestions or thoughts would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance! Crotch says thanks too! :)

Since you're buying used you never know how long it's been used and how much UVB it's still outputting...

She is telling me that it is unused and still in the box. I've actually bought an aquarium from her before and she's pretty legit. If I get there and it's still in it's original packaging, I'll be in great shape. I just want to know if a 15W bulb will generate enough UVB for a 1.5" turtle. Also, I would like some ideas on how to possibly set up both my dome basking light with this hood style light. So far, my ATBA is just a box with no top or bottom. I still need to cut out a window, and place plexiglass in the window, and mount his basking rock.. And make a ramp.

It's not actually the wattage. On the box it should say 2.0, 5.0 or 10.0. The one most used for aquatic turtles is the 5.0. If there is a screen between the bulb and basking area then use the 10.0. The 2.0 doesn't have enough UVB output.
