Habitat - Indoor :: Is this heater ok for my RES?

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

I just got my turtles and now from reading these posts found out that I need a heater for them as well.

Three quarter sized sliders are in a 20 gallon tank with about 6 inches of water in it, the guy recommended a 50W heater for 10 gallon tanks.

It's a Tetra HT10 50W Submersible Heater.

IS IT SAFE TO PUT IN THE TANK OR DO I NEED TO FIND SOME SORT OF HEATER GUARD?!!?!?
If so, what works the best?

I thank you in advance for your reply, I really need help!

That's a pre-set heater to 78 degrees. Usually those heaters aren't very accurate. Turtle hatchlings need water between 78-80 degrees. Make sure you check what that heater is doing with a thermometer. You don't need a heater guard for that one. As far as wattage goes... yeah it SHOULD be enough to get the temp where you need it.

I'm sure you've read all the care requirements on this site, but those turtles will outgrow that 20G tank in a few weeks. As they get older they may exhibit aggression towards each other and need to be in separate tanks.

When we got our hatchlings we put them right in the 75 gal tank we had for them. You should get a heater that you can adjust the temp on. I have a Marineland Stealth and have never had a problem with it. Just do your homework and get what suits your needs the best.

Think you should get a higher watt heater, to be safe
