ok today after taking out my turtles i dont even know who but someone put candles on my tank and well....of course it burned. ill highlight what got damaged in this picture. whats in red is what got damaged and well.... it did a toll on my apartment too... scorching the area on the walls

Image

and partially of the filters in take too and theres tons of debris in my tank with the burned stuff. BUT my turtles are just fine their in my room but im not sure much about what to do on my tank besides clean it up completely. ill try and make the tank workable with and do as well as i can making a new basking dock and cleaning the tank 100% top to bottom. im happy i took them out before it happened their okay so dont worry. but im still upset my tank is a bit roughed up

i took a pic on what it looks like..... with my webcam and im hoping you can see it as well as you can

Image

see what im working with now? :| :x ..... so upset

Is what you called "basking support" the actual center brace of the tank?
If so you will need to repair that somehow or lower the water level. The higher the water level, the more pressure it will put on the sides of the tank making it bow and possibly crack. It might hold without it, but i wouldn't trust to leave it like that.
I'm not going to ask why and how candles ended up on your tank......But that sucks.

im not sure myself but that middle section was what held the basking dock up. and that was the middle brace to holding the whole thing. im gonna lower the water level as well and fix the whole entire tank.

i noticed the candles there as well before i fell asleep. when i woke up, that area was on fire and the house was full of smoke. im guessing my dad put it there and lately, hes not being much of a good dad and getting drunk so yeah.

*EDIT*

anyone know a website where i can get parts for the xp3 filter that i use?

You can find a replacement top frame for your tank online, but it's not cheap (probably around $30.00 plus shipping), and not super easy to replace.
I've had a tank with a broken brace and i repaired it with a thick piece of plexiglass and epoxy. It's not going to look pretty, but it will do the job.

i can get that paid for. but i dont think replacing the glass is necessary id leave it that way since theirs not much i can do or damaged as much. the intake is what im worried about since its burned and melted onto the tank

Who thought that was a good idea? Common sense needs to make a comeback. If you get a piece of wood, and glue that to place where the brace used to be, that'll actually solve the problem.

@map trust me i said the same thing but the damage is done and im working on the tank at the moment.

i used a saw and cut off that burned part and im stuck with a bare tank sort of. i have a basking dock working right now but no running filter since the intake sucks in air as well. hopefully! duct tape will fix that (it usually fixes everything) and once the new intake comes, ill replaced the damage piece

Duct tape will not give you an air tight seal. Try clear packaging tape and rubber bands at the ends.

I've seen this happen before, its not that bad (from what it looks like), I cant really see the detail from the pictures, but it only looks minor. The trim can either be replaced, or you can get some plexi-glass or glass and make a better top brace for the middle. Just add some silicone and let it dry and your basicly done.

As for the intake tube, its best to replace it with the same part, or buy a cheaper intake.
Thanks,
Richard

yes that stuff does work but temporarily till i get that intake piece. which is good for now and im glad its up and running. i finally got some fish in there and the tank looks different and ill get a picture of what it looks like

at the moment, the filter is running, water is halfway and there are some goldfish in the tank. also basking light. cant forget. but they never bask.....

I gotta agree with mapturtlelover, who thought that was a good idea? Why didn't they think the wax would drip into the water, and that the candle would possibly burn the PLASTIC that brace is made of?

I once got angry with my mother because she was spraying air freshener near the tanks and even wanted to spray it over the tanks!!! I was like, "DON'T BE PUTTING NO CHEMICALS IN MY BABIES' WATER!!!!!"

I think wood, properly cut and screwed together can be used as a "removable" center brace. If you get a wide enough piece and cut openings, you can put your lights over it and your basking area underneath.
