Habitat - Indoor :: Need help building tank setup (130 Gallon)

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

We have a female RES who measures in with a 8" shell. We recently came across an old tank setup with a 130 gallon tank and wood stand. I was able to "restore" the stand and give it a dark stain to match our other furniture. The glass has some hard water stains or calcium build up, I'm not exactly sure which is which, but once that is cleaned we can set up the the aquarium.

Our problem is, having no experience putting together a tank, we aren't exactly sure how to determine what we need.

If anyone can help us figure the rest of this tank out, we would owe you a million thank yous.

Here is a screen shot of the dimensions for the tank.

Here are a couple pictures of the tank.

We would like to create an itemized list of products we need to buy. Our ideal setup is rocks lining the bottom with a couple of plants scattered throughout. We still need to figure out how we are going to integrate a basking area for her also.

We are concerned with maintenance and clean up, more specifically, how difficult it would be. Any light shed on this issue would be great.

Again, any help is appreciated.

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=27147 is my setup of a 110gal.

What I have is a Reba Xp3 filter and seems to be doing great, you might want to look at an Xp4.
I have a 300watt Rena Smartheater and it automatically heats and seems to be enough where it isn't on all the time and never gets too cold.
I built an in-tank basking area using Grey Goose's design viewtopic.php?t=13965
I have always used a two light setup a 75w turtle tuff bulb, and a 26w repto YVB. I recently added another light over the tank area a UVB 5.0.

Hope that helps.

i would recommend the fluval fx5 as a filter. and tank 100 gallons and over with a turtle, that is the filter i recommend. but i do have an xp3 hooked up to my 65 and it does great, i imagine the xp4 would do great too. as for a list

-filter
-heater (may not be needed depending on where you live)
-thermometer x2 (one for water one for basking area)
-basking platform (bc of the size of your turtle i would not suggest getting a dock, id say build an ATBA which i think u said u were planning on anyway)
-2 light fixtures
-heat bulb (a reguler household bulb will work for this)
-uvb bulb (you could also use an MVB instead but u will need a ceramic light fixture which is a little more expensive)

i think thats it, and if i forgot something im sure someone will point it out
65 Gallon
-1 RES (Myrtle)
-1 Pleco (unnamed)
-1 four lined pimelodus catfish (unnamed)
-1 shubunkin (unnamed)
29 Gallon Planted Tank
-3 cory cats
-# guppies!

I recently acquired a tank very similar to this, and the above comments sound spot on to what I have been advised. Haven't bought a good enough filter yet but the fx5 is top of my list. Your wooden cabinet looks a little short (like mine) and I've just found out I don't have enough space underneath for a decent filter. So before you decide where to place the tank in your room, make a note your filter may have to sit next to it, rather than under it!
