I am making a filter for my new stock tank. I though about using a 5 gallon bucket with screw on lid. What size water pump would be the right size. To not be optimum for the bucket? Is 500 good or should i go with say like 1100?

I would say to go for the 1100 to be safe.you can install an dimmer, that way you could have control over the flow.

I use 2 1400gph pump connected to an homemade filter in my pond,i have great success but the output flow might be strong for an aquarium.
I would say dimm it to 600-700gph for an 100 gallons and distribute it via an splitter or an pipe filled with holes.
