my niece recently got two RES off of craigslist and they came with a fairly small tank, much smaller than it should be i believe. anyway i thought a fun and cute alternative would be one of those hard plastic kiddie pools.

like that ^

what kind of heater, filter & light do you think would be appropriate?
and what kind of covering should i use? fish pond netting?

any suggestions for making a little island in the middle?
or pictures of similar set ups?

thank you!

You could get a floating dock and anchor it somehow. Are you going to be keeping it inside? Outside it will probably be difficult to keep the water temp under control because it's so shallow. Might get SUPER hot in the sun :(

Maybe consider large rubbermaid tub or something along those lines. I am no expert but I assume if it's outside the lighting is going to be all natural sunshine!

I got a preformed pond liner at Home Depot... it was pretty cheap.

This is a setup that looks pretty similar. It is indoors though.

you could make a custom pvc frame and put a tile on top for basking. As for filters and heaters, it just depends on the size of the pool you buy. Most aquarium filters would work on a pool, just be sure the turtle can't climb out on it.
