Habitat - Indoor :: New Tank

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Today I got a new 88 gallon tank for my turtles but the problem is that the tank is disgustingly dirty.

The owner before used it as a salt water tank and it has algae and a lot of dust from the coral.

So I was wondering what to use to clean the tank. I dont want to use bleach or any harsh chemicals but I want it clean enough that the algae and all the gunk in the tank is gone.

I checked the site and it said bleach is good for disinfecting which is what I would really like to do this tank.

But if anyone else knows of a disinfectant that's not harsh, please let me know. :)

I have a "new" 55g sitting in my garage in the same condition. I've been researching this topic. I'd stay clear of the bleach. Vinegar seems to be the way to go.

Check out this link.

Thank you so much!!! This is such a great site. I can't wait to get these supplies and start cleaning.

I've had no problems cleaning with bleach as long as you rinse it really really really well afterwards.

I always found a razor blade really helpful for getting hard water and calcium build up off of glass
