hey everyone.... > =\

so i haven't even had my new tank for a month yet and i keep getting these foggy water issues.

i have a 75 gallon tank with two 2 inch turtles & 3 goldfish & 1 pleco.

i dont feed the fish.

i hand feed the turtles pellets every other day and make sure it doesnt go to waste. and tiny particles that break off the fish will devour.

i have 1 veggie clip with a piece of green leaf lettuce. i change it to a fresh leaf every other day.

i also have a rena xp3 filter along with an aquatech 30-60.

during my first week my water was nice and clean and then it got foggy. there weren't too many particles or anything around it was just foggy.

i followed some advice and did a partial water change every other day and it cleared up real nice. it took a while but i ended having the crystal clear water i wanted. unfortunately it only lasted like 3 days before it got foggy again.

i tried doing the water changes again but its not working. i dont think my filter is clogged cause the pressure is still strong and it hasnt been a month yet. the rena xp3 is soposed to have maintenance every month. the ph and nitrite levels are all ok too..

does anyone have any idea why this keeps happening? its so frustrating i just want clear water. i dont think the fish are producing a lot of waste because i dont feed them, they only have waste and leftover food to feed on. the two turtles can't be THAT dirty in that short amount of time in a pretty decent sized tank with a decent filter. anyway if any experts could help me id really appreciate it.

also, theres this film on top of the water.... i wonder if it has anything to do with it. or maybe its the lettuce, but i change every second day to keep it fresh.

anyway........... sorry for the long post thank u for ur time!

:)

About the Film on top of the water..is it like a white foam? I used to get this ALL the time but recently it has stopped...I think its just from foods rotting in the water that you cant see or something because i had rock in mine and food would get stuck between spots where fish and turtles could not get it and ide get really dirty water and the white foam on top of the water...

as for the tank not clearing, maybe the filters have just not got the cycle down ... it could take like a good month to cycle the whole thing to where it will be clear..just keep doing 25% water changes untill it stops...or clean everything.

Recently my water kept going green so i had to do a 100% water Change and cleaned the filter and it went away real quick now the water is crystal clear and has been for a good 2 weeks...I am using a Whisper 30/60 filter on my turtle tank...

My tank is foggy. Everybody says to do water changes, add some chemicals and all that. The best way I handle this is to do nothing, absolutely nothing. I just waited it out, turtles are pretty tough so that foggy water doesn't really hurt them, but with fishes then it's a different story.
I just waited it out, 4 days and the fogginess was over. But if you want to speed up the beneficial bacterias then you can something called API Stress Zyme+. It contains bacteria that helps the beneficial bacteria colonize quicker, I worked pretty well with the XP4 at my dad's place in a 150 gallon tank.

Do you have well water or city water? I have read on this site many times about filling up a bucket of water if you have city water and let it sit for a few hours. Let it sit so the chemicals they put in the water to make it safe to drink can evaporate. If you use water straight out of the tap, you are killing all of your good bactiera and starting all over with the water getting cloudy. Just wait it out and let the water sit for a few hours before you do a water change.
