Habitat - Indoor :: Keeping tank cleaner

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

I have two RES and the water stays pretty clean looking but the sides of the tank build up with green stuff (guessing algea). The basking area is in the tank and the algea builds up especially in this area. Any suggestions to keep this down so cleaning doesn't have to be as frequent. We used to have a crawdad that seemed to keep the tank cleaner but of course the turtles ate him! Are there other creatures that can help with cleaning that RES won't eat?

Your RES will try to eat anything moving. Just try some Plecos.
1 Mississippi Map Turtle 3.25'' (Landslide)
1 Ouachita Map Turtle 4.0'' (Hurricane)
The rest of the turtles have been adopted to good homes. :)

Ive been using Chinese algae eater in mine, they are extremely hard to catch and so far my turtles couldnt get a chance to even touch him.

They are good algae eater ,if they dont have enough food they might start eating other smaller fish, but with turtles thats not an issue.just make sure to get 1,they do not like to share.

I used to have chinese algae eaters and they lasted about 6 months, much smarter/faster than my turtle. He eventually got them when they were shocked being added back to a clean tank too soon.
