Habitat - Indoor :: Finally, a new tank! Opinions?

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Found this on Craigslist, picking it up tonight:

Image

It's a 90 gallon corner tank, dimensions should be 30" x 30" with a 30" height. It comes with the stand, tank, lid, lights, and filter, so anything salvageable, I'll keep, everything else, back up on Craigslist.

It's a big more pricey, but it'll be really nice to look at in our family room, and I'm going to build an ATBA so that way, the 90 gallons should last her forever.

I'm so excited, just nervous about getting it to our house ...

Nice! A bow front! That's really cool, and once it's all setup it'll be a great centrepiece for your living room! :D

Building an atba might be a bit of a trick though!

I'm thinking to forget the bow for the ATBA and just go with a triangle instead. it should sit well, and it will leave just a skimp of space for feeding without needing to take anything off. Fortunately we've been promised some tools at Christmas, so those will come in handy!

I'm super excited, it's really a steal for the price ($400).

So, we got the tank home safe and sound Friday night, haven't had a chance to clean it yet but wow. I felt like I was literally stealing from this guy for the price he charged!

We got:

Tank and stand
Glass lid and light hood (it was used for oscars previously)
Aquarium rock decorations (he offered gravel, I declined)
Water heater
Eheim 2217 canister filter
Python? or a look-alike

And he even drove it 45 minutes to my house for me! Wow. I'm so excited!! I don't know anything about the Eheim, though it seems like it has a 264 gph versus my Rena XP3 having the 350 gph, and I would need 270-450 gph for 90 gallons. I think I'll stick with my Rena for now and maybe in a few years, when Umi is bigger and producing more waste, I'll upgrade to a Fluval FX5.

As for the basking area, I'm thinking through some plans. We found a good location for the tank, it's an exterior wall but it is almost covered by dirt on the outside, she lives in the basement because we don't have the space upstairs now anyways. It will actually be right across from the closet where we have the cat litter boxes, so it's really underneath the stairs, so it'll be quiet and out of the way, but still right in the action. I figure I'll get an MVP to hang from the ceiling there to the basking area and maybe some "mood lighting" inside the tank to light it up a little. So many possibilities! I'll hopefully get something drawn up for a basking area and post it to see opinions.

Yeah, the picture must have been lost when the posting was deleted. I'll get pics up as soon as I get the tank set up. First, it needs cleaned. Next, we need the basking area. Also, need an MVB. Then, just transfer water heater, filter, and turtle, and voila! Hopefully this all gets done sooner rather than later.
