Habitat - Indoor :: New 65 gallon with Fluval 405

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Hi everyone! I've been reading these forums for a while, thought it was time to contribute. This is my 65 gallon tall aquarium with a Fluval 405. I chose the tall over the long aquarium because space is a big issue and what better way to maximize space than to go up? Plus the aquarium new, was only $99CAN. I am using the Marineland 250w heater, keeping the water at a constant 75. If anyone has any suggestions on how to improve my setup, I'm still learning so please don't hold back!

The setup is really nice. Also, your turtle has an interesting plastron :)

Looks like you covered it all. Very nice.

I would also pick up another thermometer -- a different type, as a backup. There have a been a few of those tube ones break requiring some cleaning.

worldpeace - Thanks for the comments!

steve - really? how common is it for the thermometer to break? I will definitely get a digital one then! I can't imagine having broken glass in the tank! Thanks for the heads up.

Lilsaint - good eye! yes, that is from our old 20 gallon long aquarium (that my turtle quickly outgrew!)

I would not recommend the Exo Terra Turtle Cliff to anyone! It was simply too expensive for a "novelty item". The filter didn't work that well, and the cliff was difficult for the turtle to climb on. Not to mention the brownish paint faded quickly and the sides got chipped off when she climbed onto the top. lol....all in all, not a good experience. Buy the filter and basking area separate....in my opinion.

I had a glass thermometer forever and then one day it was on the bottom of the tank. Seemingly none of the contents spilled out, but I could not find the tiny piece of glass that broke. Would not recommend.

With a glass aquarium, I would recommend a stick on type which may not be as accurate as one in water, but it shouldn't be that off and should be consistent. Next would be a small infrared temp gun (around $20) and that can take measurements in a few seconds.

I have a sticker on the outside of my tank and had the glass one. I'm down to just the stick on one, but I do have two of them. They're cheap and get the job done.
