No, gravel in your turtle's tank is not acceptable. They can swallow it and it causes serious problems. If you want to have something on the bottom of the tank, you can put sand or large river rocks.

Just be on the safe side and go with bare bottom. Just because they are to big now doesn't mean he won't get bigger.

true. but a bare bottom seems so plain. and i put some water in it yesterday with the gravel, and today when i woke up, the water was clear. so does that mean its safe now ?

I'm with sabrina on this one....Just go bare bottom. I tried everything from pebbles, to river rocks, to sand, to bigger rocks. I finally gave in and did the bare bottom.....it's not as bad as you might think, I actually really like it now....and not to mention it's WAY easier to clean....1000x easier.

i agree with most peoples post on the bare bottom. I personally use river rocks because like u said a bare bottom looks a little plain. But if countless hours after a water change of scrubbing algae and dirty stuff off your rocks isn't a problem! By all means river rocks would be a great idea and nice addition to your tank :)

i have a bare bottom 135g. the filter easily keeps up and theres no debris settled on the bottom. to make it less plain i rubberband fake plants to rocks and set them on the bottom of the tank. it looks pretty good, and add some depth to the tank that is missing with no gravel.
