Habitat - Indoor :: Reptomin Pellets get stuck in Fluval 405 filter intake guard

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

So, a couple weeks back I upgraded our filter to a Fluval 405 from a drop in and waterfall filter. The water looks amazing now, but in the last couple days, I guess the turtles weren't as hungry, and bunch of reptomin pellets got lodged into the grates of the intake guard, preventing the filter from working properly. (water started turning a little green and a slight smell came back)

Any ideas on how to prevent this? I was thinking of adding another screen around the outside, but i don't want to hinder the filter from pulling in the turtle poop.

(also some shedding scutes get stuck in there too, but many just sit at the bottom though right under the intake)

I would turn off the filter if your getting that problem, though if there not eating those pellets then it sounds like your dropping in to many pellets at once.

that usually happens when you put too many pellets. they don't eat them, then leave them, they soak, then sink and clump on the bottom of the tank

cut down on the pellets and that might not happen as much or at all
