Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

i currently have a 200-220 gal tank with two 2 inch res. my aunt is giving me her 300 gal tank with 2 goldfish(i think their kois) about 6-7 inches. should i wait some time to bring them together or do it today? will the water level be too high for the turtles? should i just wait for the turts to get bigger? Thanks if you could help.

RES are great swimmers, but sometimes the little ones can get tired. If you provide several areas where they can rest near the surface (tall plants or underwater platforms), they should be OK. I bet they'll love that giant tank!
I'd keep an eye on the koi/goldfish though. If their tails have mysterious bite marks, you may want to separate the fish and the turtles. Even little RES can nip a big fish to death.

Be sure to post a pic! I love giant tanks!

plus setting up this tank with my aunt is becoming a pain. She knows nothing about turtles and is trying to convince me that the kois will eat the turtles. And that the turts wont eats the small pebbles. Thats juss more work i have to do when she leaves.

Yeah, sometimes well meaning family members can be not so helpful ;) It's good that you've got this site so you know what's best for your RES :)

Problem. The goldfish/koi are so big that when i put in the turtle food they will eat it. So i will have to keep the turtles in a smaller tank until they grow a bit. What do you guys think?

Ah, yeah, didn't think of that. You could either keep them in their smaller tank until they grow, or you could feed the turtles in a separate container. I think some members here just put a bit of tank water in a tupperware container and put the turtles in with some food. It can take a while for them to get used to it though.

But if the 200 gal tank is still set up, that's still a great tank for both of them.

Try putting the turtle's food on the basking dock. When I feed pellets I place it on the dock and my turtle will climb up and grab one pellet at a time and drag it into the water to eat it.

Depending on the size of the koi and your turtle its not such a far fetched idea of your aunts to suggest that a koi woild try eating a turtle.
