Have any of you seen the turtle topper by reptology? I just got one from Petco and I think it is great.

Just thought I would share.

Look at that nice male eastern! That really sold me lol.

Actaully that is by the neatest thing ive seen. Couple Bad things though. It only fits 55gallons and below but i think for those with larger tanks you can run a board across and hold it that way. Im gonna look into it.

I use Fluorescent tubes so i would have to go and buy another lamp and a compact uva/uvb bulb but still really neat.

Wow, the board is a very good idea. I might look into that.

Wait, there's that resting spot thing... Maybe a couple of thick wooden planks on either end would hold it in place.

The price bothers me greatly, to tell ya the truth. I think it's because I know I can make my own basking area for less money. Hell, the basking spot I have right now cost less than half of that and I can use it for the rest of their lives. Right now it's for basking, but when they get bigger, it can be a resting spot and sort of toy for them to play with.

I mean, how is 50 bucks better for me, if I bought that today? I'll have that turtle topper on the 40 gallon I want for a year or two, and then it's useless to me, when I get a larger tank. (I figure I'll go straight to a 75 gallon after the 40) Unless I try that board idea you had, but that would be very difficult.

This is for people with "zero" time, creativity, tool skills, or just plain lazy.......
For $50 i can build a "turtle condo" not a turtle topper.

I thought I would simply point out another option for the peole that don't have the time or skills to make their own. I don't have the time and I think that this product fits my needs quite well. It fits nicely on my 55 gallon and actually looks pretty good.

Maybe I am in a different situation than others, but I did not think the $45.00 I paid for it was a bad price. I guess to each is own.

We aren't mad at you or anything like that. For people who just need a basking spot quick, yeah, the turtle topper is great.

Thing is, Painteds4life, Caphits, jozzep, me, and a bunch of other people have been discussing and debating this turtle topper for a long time. We're just sort of continuing our conversation. Like, "don't mind us, we're just continuing our debate in your space".

I ain't paying no 99 dollars for a turtle topper, vs being able to build my own basking spot for less than 20 bucks. That's even a rip off for somebody who doesn't have time to build a basking spot.
