Habitat - Indoor :: Glass doors with turtle designs or soemthing nice ?

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Post Posted: Thu Mar 19, 2009 3:59 am   Glass doors with turtle designs or soemthing nice ?

Ok, so my custome stand / canopy is almost done. I decided to forgo making my own and take a loss on materials bought. After I got the frame together things kinda went downhill. ANYWAY........ my custom stand / canopy should be here in about 2 weeks give or take a few days. So my question is this, do any of you guys know of reputable companies that do nice work with glass cabinet doors ? I wana try to find two cabinet stained glass doors or soemthing to toss on to the stand.

Also, yes once I get thr stand and get it stained etc I will be sure to show it off. As for cost, the stand and canopy are running me about $700.

Yes I could use that for Nikos new tank but I need a stand to put the tank on hence me buying this first but if all goes according to plan Niko will be in his / her new 60x18x24 tank withi nthe next 6-8 months.

That sounds pretty cool. I'm not sure where you can find what you're looking for, but this could be something you make yourself. So many possibilities.

If you're looking for a professional, you might want to check through Angie's List or something like that.

Angie's list ?

Also, yes I supposed I could do soemthing like this on my own. Persoanlly I thin kit would be easier than building my own stand lol.

I did find one nice design but this company is sayin it would be like $600 a door, now while I know stained / colored glass cabinet doors arent cheap thats just way the F out there.

But ya, I wana get something with a nice design for the two cabinet doors for Niko's stand but I'll be damned if I'm gonna fork out $1,200 for two cabinet doors.

I did however find this... It's labeled as a suncatcher but assuming its squared and the right size I could possible make two cabinet doors from two of these for just under $150 but I'm trying to keep my options open for other designs.

Make sure you keep a clean stand then because it will look like crap if you see junk behind them.

Heh, a clean stand is definately soemthing I got planned for anyway. Aside from the filter and a few odds n ends there wont be anything under it. As for the door themselves, Ive kinda got attached to the picutre I posted. I think when I get some more "whatever I wana buy" money in I'll get two of those and snip on the hanging chains and make two cabinet doors from them. I'll just reverse one of the panes / panels so it will look like the two doors (turtles) are staring at eachother.

Either way, I'm not totally settled on what I got pictured above so if anyone has any other ideas (sites to share) please post em here.

You gotta admit though Chris, it is a nice idea I got here heh

Edit: Glass doors or not people should always when possible keep clean stands ;-p

Stained or color glass might not display as nice as part of the stand. Maybe something frosted, and you can even come up with your own design.

Frosted glass is nice but I kinda want soemthing with some color to it. It shouldnt look to bad if I go with a dark stain or soemting on the stand.

What do you mean, like no color at all and just an etched design on a pane of glass ?

I agree with most comments on here. I don't think stained glass would look as nice as you'd hope. It really looks it's best with a light source behind it and a turtle stand wouldn't really offer that. It might look dull.

I think the etched/frosted glass is a great idea though! That could look really nice.

Just mount a flourescent strip light inside the tank stand along the underside of the top. That would illuminate it nicely. and you could put it on a timer.

I was kinda thinking that about the strip lights to illuminate it, but even without light I think it would still look nice it just depends on the design of the glass.
