looking to get the lamp and bulb for my turtles
I have 2
male and female but they are separated. One in a clear rubbermaid container the other in a 30gallon or so tank

curious as to if these products i am looking at here are good??
and what strength bulb is good for them?

the Bulb

http://www.amazon.com/Power-Ultraviolet ... 195&sr=8-1

and the lamp
http://www.amazon.com/Zoo-Economy-Clamp ... 457&sr=8-3

only thing i am worried with the lamp about is if i clip it on the side of the aquarium, will it provide enuff warmth for them?

and can it clip on to one of those storage containers??

I am not to sure about the UVA/UVB bulbs beacuse I have my turtle outside. But I do know that the lights for reptiles are made to give off heat for basking... Good Luck!!!

The bulb you posted is a Mercury Vapour Bulb (MVB). MVBs provide both UVB and heat, so you only need the one bulb instead of two. Many people who use MVBs swear by them, and they are often recommended.
BUT you can only use MVBs in tanks that are 50 gallons or larger, otherwise the light will heat up the tank too much.
So if you do a tank upgrade, then you can use an MVB like the one you posted, but other than that, you should not use an MVB.

With your current setups, you will need two bulbs for each turtle.
The first is a UVB light. You can either use a strip UVB light, or a CFL UVB.
Examples of CFLs are:
http://www.amazon.com/Exo-Terra-Repti-G ... y_hg_img_b
or
http://www.amazon.com/Zoo-Med-Reptisun- ... 416&sr=1-1

Look for UVB bulbs that are 5.0 or 7.0, and 26W. 2.0 is too weak, and 10.0 is on the strong side.

Then you'll need a bulb for heat. For this, you can use a regular incandescent household bulb.

I don't know much about the clamp, but for a CFL UVB you can use just about any regular lamp fixture.

If you do decide to get the 160 watt MVB, make sure that the bulb is at least 16 inches away from the top of the shell while basking. The bulb must also hang vertically, not stuck to the side of the tank, so that clamp lamp will not really work..

petdiscounters.com sells lamps and bulbs for like, 2 dollars a pop.

I haven't used them yet, but hey, if they don't work it's only a few dollars versus the 40 you'll spend right now.

Newbieish, if you're talking about a regular UVB bulb, using one that emits no less than 5% UVB is OK (it will also emit UVA rays). With regular UVB bulbs, you also need to use a heat source, which can be a regular light bulb. Use a wattage that will get the basking area temp in the range of 88-90F.
