Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

How do u guys build a nesting area for your female RES??? I am in the process of building a 'basking platform' attached to the top of the tank and would like to incorporate a small 'dig box' within the platform.

I have a 55 gallon tank now and the platform I will be building will be larger than the overall tank size (it will hang slightly off the back of the tank to give them more room).

Also, due to the fact that this "project" will take awhile, I want to do a temporary dirt box for my female RES who is now trying to get out of the tank to "nest".

Any ideas for both my projects???

maybe have a box that sits next to the tank and have the top of the box level with the top of the tank. And then you can fill the box with dirt. That way your turt could walk from the basking platform, onto the dirt with ease. You could just have a small box propped up with another box so you don't have a lot of unnecessary dirt. Im not sure of the depth of the dirt though that your suppose to have. I would make the dirt box at least 6 inches deeper than it has to be so that the eggs (if laid) have proper insulation from the bottom.

Just be careful about how much the "dirt box" is hanging off the back. You will probably need to support it somehow.
