Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

I always feel so guilty because my baby is only in a 55g for now. (I've been trying but I cannot find anywhere but upstairs in a room nobody goes in that would fit a larger tank)

But I have read other places that for every inch wide she is is an inch of water deep... is that correct?

She is 5 wide and her home has 7 inches of water, is that good? (she jumps out if it is any highter :() Is that ok? Shoudl the water be higher?

shell size is for tank SIZE, not for the amount of water in the tank. You'll want to fill up the water as high as you can without allowing the turtle to escape.

the rule goes for every inch of shell, front to back, is 10 gallons of tank capacity. if she's 5 inches wide I'm assuming she's about 7 inches long, so 7 inches of water is the bare minimum.

Check the main site in the habitat section for more info on optimum conditions.

Oh thanks. I'm awful at searching so I didn't find anything. I need to take a class on online searching skills :P For s20something I really should know. My little f-er :p at 7 inches grabs her way to the top at 7 inches of water anyhow.

Since she is 6.5 inches I feel so absoutly guilty having her in a 55g. I guess keeping her in the spare bedroom in a 100g until we move is better than keeping her in the 55g of tank?

I would just never get to see her :P

This goes without saying but RES are aquatic turtles genetically designed to swim, dive and float. There's no such thing as too deep or too much water for them. Give it all the space and depth to swim you can.
