Try looking for a used tank, they are much cheaper. Also, how big a tank are you looking for? $200+ should be getting you at least a 75G if it's new.

www.craigslist.com and www.freecycle.com are a GODSEND.

I got a 30 gallon with a stand and accessories for $100, and that's expensive for most sellers. (The others were deadbeats and wouldn't answer my emails.) I saw some for even less. Just be sure it's watertight and even test it out before you buy.

Does anyone know where to look for tanks other than craigslist and kijiji?

Nope. I tried Wal-Mart, and they're really high.

I JUST got mine from a seller on Craigslist on Tuesday. I'd been hunting online for over two weeks, and I didn't find ANYTHING that wasn't super over-priced or used. I don't know of any discount aquarium sellers.

I would just go with Craigslist if I were you. I am totally satisfied with my tank.

Only time you'll get a deal on a tank is the petco dollar a gallon sale. But that only goes up to 55gal tanks and the sale is once a year and they never tell when.

Fred is about 3 1/2in so like 35g? right now she(named before we knew the gender) is in a 10g so i KNOW we need a new one  ...I just need to find a good deal on a 35g+.

I dont have any money so my dad has to buy it and all the ones ive seen are $100+ -- this is on petmart so idk. For some reason he wont use anything like ebay or craigslist even though ive seen some good deals like a 75g for $75 maybe i can convince him

Go for at least 50+ gallons so you won't have to upgrade again for a while. And if you buy from a store then expect to spend quite a bit of money.

You don't want to try and buy a tank that will fit your turtle now. Try and get as big a tank as you can. If you buy a 35 gallon, you'll have to buy a new, bigger one soon. You could by a breeder tank or a 55 gallon, they would last much longer and are readily available. You could also go to a farm supply store and buy stock tank. They are much larger and should last the life of your turtle.

Usually 40 gallons are pretty cheap at pet stores. Craigslist is your best bet though. Just make sure you test out the tank and make sure it can hold water before you hand over the money.

Fred, please try Craigslist. I'm so happy with mine-- and Tank is absolutely elated! I had the same problem-- my family couldn't afford to buy me a tank. Even 20 gallons were expensive! So I tried Craigslist, and voila! Just don't try to cut corners by using Rubbermaid bins-- they don't work. I nearly had a disaster and a heartattack.

Seriously, go for the stuff on Craigslist. When folks really want to ditch their tanks they'll bargain. You can even try to get them down to a lower price!
