Habitat - Indoor :: Moonlighting question for turtles

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Post Posted: Mon Jan 05, 2009 3:04 am   Moonlighting question for turtles

I got the moonlight effect on my tank by putting a 12' blue LED rope light in my flourescent strip light that just adds extra light to my tank. Okay, so it looks fantastic at night as the other lights go off, and just this dim light comes on.
But I'm wondering can my turtle sleep with this light on? It's pretty dim, but I wouldn't want it to keep him up at night..

Here's some pictures..Tell me if you think it would keep him up. To me, it doesn't seem like it would.

It's a little dimmer than in the pictures. My camera brightens it up on the night setting.

I think they can, my turtles sleep whenever they see fit hahaha

does anything happen to turtles if they have inadequate sleep?
I would figure that like any other animal, they would sleep eventually.
I don't really know the answer to your question though, I would LOVE it if you hooked it up with all these moonlights you keep getting

You can get the ropelights at pretty much any Target, Walmart, etc. They're pretty sweet.

I can't say for sure, but I know my turtle will stay asleep if I come home after his lights go out at 10 and I turn the rooms lights on. Maybe it'll take a few nights of adjustment? But it looks fantastic :)

i did LED backlighting on my tank. I bought some LEDs from radioshack and wired them up to an old cellphone charger. They look pretty cool lighting up the background on my aquarium. ill post some pictures tonight

I think it depends on personality... my female RES will sleep through all that... but I rarely see my male RES sleep. :?:
