Habitat - Indoor :: Re-painting my tank stand project*Finished!*

Well I decided it's time to repaint my stand. When I got my tank, it came with the stand this color:

I've decided I officially hate the color now. The stand is more of a focus than the tank, and it makes the tank look cheap in my opinion. So I decided I wanted it black, but then struggled with deciding on flat black or satin black. So I decided flat black and have begun painting it. I have one door on, and the other door is drying right now. I have sanded most of the front, but the rest of the stand will have to wait to be sanded.


Basically I'll have to completely tear down my tank, then take the stand out, sand, and paint, all in a few hours. Soon as the paint dries, I will be moving the tank back in and filling back up. It'll be interesting to see how long all that takes, I may have to set up the spare 30gal for a little bit with squirt in it. Hopefully not.

I see why you want too paint it lol.
I repainted my stand this summer just before I got Sassamo. It was black but 10 years off hard water stains, some trim missing and the kids art work. I took it outside, sanded it painted it black and used a gloss finish. Then I scrubbed the tank down, scraped off all the stickers and sticky stuff. Then when I was done it was like the tank and stand where brand new

Getting paint and sandpaper tomorrow. I have both doors on right now to see how it looks. I really like it so far. I'm surprised how much smoother spraypaint is than a brush.

Paint is drying right now. It was a lot of work to tear down the tank and move the stand outside, and to the shop area that we have. I think it's time for a Dr.Pepper.

geez. i woulda made it my first priority to pain that thing!! what were they thinking when they painted it red??

I wasn't too sure about the flat black when you first said it, but the door looks pretty nice so i'm sure it will turn out great

I made a stand from 2x4's and then glued some 3/4 inch oak pieces on the borders with 1/2 inch plywood for the top and sides. The back has a sheet of 1/8 inch paneling. I finally sanded and stained the entire stand. I put a couple coats of varnish and waxed it after drying. No painting or maintenance required.

All finished!
Just moved back into position after painting.

Doors back on and closed. I need to get some new knobs too. I don't like the ones it had.

And all the stuff back inside the stand. I painted the inside bottom black too. Adds to it I think.

And heres my tank, all set-up again. Still has all the micro bubbles on the acrylic so the pic looks crappy.
