im new to filter and i dont want to pick the wrong one and end up having to spend more on another filter again, i picked out these two, can you please tell me which one is better? this is for a 29 gallon tank, if these isnt good please recommend me some thanks.

I'm not a fan of cheap knock-offs because usually the quality isn't so great. But of the two you have posted I would choose the second one. The Eheim design is far superior to the Fluval x05 design. That's assuming both of those filters are built to the same quality.

I think what poohbah means is that it looks like the first one is a knock off of the Fluval 05 series, and the second one looks like a knockoff of the eheim series.

My suggestion is to look at a Fluval 404. That would be awesome in a 29 gallon, and you could easily keep it when you upgrade your tank. They're on ebay starting at about the same price as those two, or you can do "buy it now" for just a bit more.

As BullDog said, those are imitations of brand name filters and, as such, will be of much lower quality than the real thing. Personally, I would go with a Rena XP3.

thanks both, and i picked the first two cause in my other post bulldog suggested to get a canister filter and i just looked up canister filter lol

I only have experience with the xp3 but I hav never had any issues with then and they work pretty well. I have 3 in total one for each 55 gallon tank that i have. I would also recommend it!

I made my filter out of a 5 gallon bucket. It works quite well. I don't recommend building something unless you're into that sorta thing, though.

I love my new Fluvol 405!! Mostly because it is SOOO quiet! Pricey, yes, but hopefully it will mean less work keeping it up.

I have a Mairneland Magnum 350 on a 29 gallon and it works just fine. There is a little swirl in the water but it does a great job. I also have a Fluval 405 which is very quiet and pumps about 300 gph and also does a good job. I have had the Marineland Magnum 350s for years and have had no problem with them. That is my experience and will recommend them.
