My 3 RES have been in their new home for a day now, I do have a water heater I have never used but my QuietOne 9000 return pump has brought the water temp up to 77.9F.
I have used a digi probe thermometer and it says the min was 77.2 and max 77.9 in the past 24 hours.
I just recieved a therm gun in the mail today and it confirms the digi probe as acurate.

1. My RES are 2 yrs old and about 6", is this temp ok?

2. When it isnt 70F outside my house will be much colder, more like 65 with house-heat on. Would a corresponding drop of a few degrees be acceptable?

You should keep the water temp between 72-75*F, just don't let the temps drop to 70 or below.

So, in winter I will be right on the perfect temp, but what if it is 77 and not 72-75... is this acceptable?

Yes, I understand. 80 is the danger zone.

Thanks.

80F really isn't "the danger zone," but warmer temps will over time encourage shedding. Turtles the size of yours, if healthy, can do fine with a water temp in the low 70's. My RES's water temp is 69 - 70F in the winter, and he's fine with that.

Thanks for the info Marisa, now I wont panic when winter arives.

My original concern was that my temp was too hot at 77, though the weather here has turned suddenly and my water temp has dropped to 74.

I will have a heater available in case the water gets too cold, though I think I lucked out with a pump that performs an extra function as a water heater.
