Habitat - Indoor :: best filter

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

i've gone through already 2 different power filters already. The first one we bought was the Tetra Whisper EX series. With that, it would work then it wouldnt filter as much water as it did in the beginning. Now we have the Aqua Clear Power Filter by Hagen. and it started working now the tank is cloudy... which is the best filter to use...cuz i'm tired of going to petsmart.
lol thanks a bunch

What size is your tank? The most recommended filters for turtles are canister filters. There are a number of brands out there: Rena XP series, Fluval 05 series, Eheim, and Marineland to name a few. The most popular is probably the Rena XP3, with the fluval series perhaps second.

That being said, all filters require maintenance. If you don't clean out your filter once and a while, even the most powerful filter will end up with cloudy water.

You are not likely to get any good filtration choices with a tank that size. Once you hit 30 gallon tanks, you will have a lot more quality options.

If you still want a power wilter I would go with marineland penguin 280 for now. I have two emperor 400 in my 120 gallon and they work great I also used the penguin 280 before in my 20 gallon and it was great, my water never got cloudy

Fluvals are pretty good too. We had one for a few years in our smaller tanks, and it did a pretty good job.

I used a Duetto 100 which is a submersible filter and it did its cycle within a week and ever since with maybe some little water changes its stayed crystal clear. Now i just have to fight the algea.

Edit: Forgot to mention that my tank is also a 10gallon.

What model of AquaClear are you using in your 10-gallon?

omg_22, that Aquaclear isn't strong enough, even for a 10-gallon tank. For a 10-gallon tank, an Aquaclear 50 would be more like it (if you want to use this type of filter).

This is what I use and it works good with my 10g tank. I do plan on upgrading though to atleast a 150g tank and an FX5 filter when I get the money.

I had a Top Fin Whisper 20 and my 10 gallon would stay clear for almost 2 weeks!
