would anyone know if it's possible to connect two 20 gallon tanks, 1 on top of another? if possible, how would you do it?

I have lots of ideas! Trouble is, most of them suck!

Could connect the two together next to each other, connected by a basking area leading from tank to tank. means you have to have 2 filters, and 2 heaters though. not really worth it in the end, but if you wanted to do it, its plausible.

yea i do that too. i find great deals its just that they're either too far away or i don't have space for the tank. but it's ok because i think that one of my family friends will give me their tank for free :D ! i don't know how many gallons it is, but it's definitely much bigger than mine & i can eventually measure the tank & just use the tank calculator here. i just need to find somewhere to put it.
