Habitat - Indoor :: looking for a new filter

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Post Posted: Sat Oct 11, 2008 7:12 pm   looking for a new filter

my old filter broke & as of now i have Tetra Reptofilter which looks like this:

http://www.tetra-fish.com/images/TetraF ... RF_178.jpg

when i save enough money i plan on making a better ATBA & filter. my turtle is 6 inches long & i have a 20 gallon long tank. I KNOW i need a bigger tank, but they're just too expensive for me right now (i do not work, i get a small allowance, & i'm a full time nursing student so i'm quite busy). when i finish making the ATBA, i plan on raising the water level as high as possible, so that she's has a lot of swimming room.

could anyone please let me know which filters are the best & CHEAPEST for a 20 gallon long? i'm trying to make do with what i have & i want the best for my turtle

try and buy a xp2 rena filter. since you have a 20 gallon, its best you work with what you've got. the box filter's seem the best since they really do wonders. madmax1 bought me a new one (thank you so much) and i have a 56 gallon which his 2 small for my babies. i have a whisper 20 running on it now and im only 14 so im mostly on my own but thanks to him i think ill get back on my feet. (i dont suggest asking him for stuff right away. sorry)

HOB filters are good. Something like a Marineland Penguin 350. Filters 350gph(gallons per hour), and would do a good job. about 35 bucks online.

if you can afford to spend like 80 bucks, then a Marineland Magnum 350 canister would be a better choice.

i'm sorry for so many questions. if i buy a new filter, i plan on keeping it as the last & final one.

HOB stands for Hang on Back.

I just checked petsmart for the prices, as i am looking to buy one tomorrow for the new cichlid tank im setting up. the price is $26.99online, so you could buy one in store for less than $35 probably. Yes it would work great for a 20g, it filters 350gph, so your tank would have a turnover rate of 17.5 times per hour. Thats plenty of flow.
and refills are pretty cheap, like $10 or something. but you can make a set of cartidges last a few months. :)

I like the filters a lot honestly. they work hard, and they are quiet.
