Is it better to use a CF type UVB bulb where you can set it over the basking dock or a long tube where the whole tank is lit with a UVB tube?

If you use the long-tube, it should still be positioned over the basking area. The general consensus is that UVB tubes are more reliable and I tend to agree.

If the tube can't fit completely over the basking area, try to get as much of it as possible over it with the heat source next to it.
