What can I do between water changes to keep the bottom cleaner??

Is this kind of debris something a powerful canister filter (not the one I am using now) will take care of??

It looks like a lot of left over food and plant matter. You can feed the turtle in separate container, this will keep all food waste out of the tank. You can get some bubble stones. Those will help circulate the water and keep the "junk" from resting on the bottom, and I believe MadMax had some success with his powerhead.

i wouldn't buy it from there,
i found one at petco for 50

but that thing is like amazingness times ten.
it doesn't take any water out it just sucks up debris.

it seems it'd be perfect for your problem :]

You don't have to use another tank. Just get a bowl or bucket or something, then when you're done, dump it out and toss it in the dish washer.

You need a container just big enough for them to turn around in not swim in.
