im planning on getting a mega ray bulb

i currently have a 100 watt t-rex but it alone doesnt really heat up the dock enough. i was wondering if i should go up to the 160 watt? or would it be too strong?

I think the 160 mega ray would be great. You may need to move it up a bit more, but if the 100 isn't doing it, that's probably your best bet.

for a 55 I would get the 100 watt. I have a 100 watt powersun on my 75 gallon and it works great.

I need to revise my recommendation. The 100 watt isn't doing it in a 55? Really? I should have asked. Are you sure the temp reading is accurate? I have a 125 with an above the tank basking area, and a 100 is good for me...

My 75 watt is strong enough to keep my basking area heated up in my 53 gallon.

i have a digital thermometer up there and it always says about 88. i went ahead and ordered the 100 so i'll just have to see what happens.

Yeah. The tamperature's not low but it could be higher. I don't know what the temp is on mine. I used one of them thermometers that you stick in your mouth and held it over the basking area and I think it said like 92'.
