Hey guys, my tank is still being occupied at the moment, but I'm still gathering info and all that good stuff.

I was just wondering though, when you put underwater plants in the tank, do they do anything for the water? Like keep it cleaner, make it dirty, any chemicle things? Or does everything stay the same with them in there?

I always found it made my water seem cleaner. But that could all be in my head :)~

I believe the plants will make the tank a bit cleaner since it takes nutrients left over form the turtles fecal matter. But for sure it's more of an oxygen supplier for the water, and that my friend is a very good thing.

Aquatic plants will eat up some of the chemicals that come from your turtle's feces. Just make sure that whatever you add won't make your turtle sick if he tries to eat it and know that if your turtle does it, it will make a big mess

Hm, the only place I know of that sells aqautic plants are the local Petsmarts and Petco's, other than that I dont think other companies really sell that kind of stuff.

I get mine at Petco, petsmart never has it. You should ask one of the people when it's coming in. At our petco, the anacharis is usually sold out within like two days of it getting shipped in.

You can order them online. Never tried it. Has anyone done that before?

I checked my local pet stores in VT and nearby NH and MA all say they can't sell it because it's illegal. I finally got ahold of one store that says they sell anacharis elodea and one that sells anacharis naja, Which one do I want?

I'm not sure what the specific differences are, though the kind I have is a bit leafier.

I get my anacharis online, through an ebay seller.

Yeah the kind I've seen is more prickly looking and spiny.

The anacharis I have is elodea canadensis, "Canadian Waterweed". It grows in all our lakes here, and I just take cuttings and grow them in tap water. It looks like what Steve posted, but the leaves are more horizontal.
