Oh my gosh, that Fluval FX5 is EXPENSIVE! I didn't know you people were talking 300 bucks! Is there a really good filter that will work for my 100 gallon stock tank that's not so expensive? Plus it is huge! How do you clean huge canister filters?

They are only $300 in stores. You can get them for $200 shipped on Ebay.

You could also use a Rena Filstar XP4 I believe. It's slightly cheaper, though still as large. They are relatively easy to clean, once you lug the filter to the cleaning location, it's just like cleaning a bucket. And as long as your filter is running and everything's happy in your tank, I've found so far that my Rena is very clean inside, no slime, no residue left over. I use a high power sprayer from my shower (due to a lack of a backyard hose, someday I'll have one of those) and just hose the inside out. Dry off the outside, set it outside the tub, and clean out all of my sponges, reassemble, and back under the tank. The tubes stay primed when cleaning, so you just open it up, let the filter fill back up, and then top off the tank. Trust me, whatever canister filter you buy, you'll be very impressed, they are exceptional at keeping the tank clean and well worth the investment (think of the alternative, hauling all of that water out of the turtle tank, scrubbing top to bottom, filling it back up ...).
