For a 10 gallon tank, that filter will do just fine.

But, a 10 gallon tank is already to small for RES. It my be sufficient size for a hatchling until they are about a month or 2 old. General rule is 10 gallons per inch of turtle.

Sorry to burst your bubble. A $3 tank is a pretty good find! But you'll have to upgrade soon to keep your turtle happy and healthy. He'll grow out of that VERY fast if he hasn't already.

You did good with a filter. When you upgrade tanks, you'll also need a new filter. A good rule is to get a filter rated 2-3 X the size of the tank. The ratings are for fish, and turtles are much messier than fish.

Yeah im well aware about the tank size. One main reason why I bought it is because i might get another hatchling in a year and use the tank as a starter. By that time my other RES will be in a third and bigger tank so I can switch my second RES to the second tank. Do you know of any good filter brands???

I don't really know much about filters for the small tanks. I do use Top Fin cascading filters on my 55 gallon. That is working well for me. They make 20-60 gallon versions I think. Like I said, tho, you want one rated 2x-3x the size of your tank.

Well when my turt starts growing ima get a 55 gallon maybe bigger. Was thinking about a 90 though because it will eventually outgrow the 55 gal.

eventually 2 turtles will outgrow the 90 gallon as well. 90 gallon would only be good for one adult.
