My turtle is 1" in diameter and is in a 10 gallon. I'm keeping him for 6 months and then he's going into my friends pond. I rescued him from a person keeping him in a poop filled tank with little food and improper lighting and everything. I set up the tank with what I had but I'm trying to improve it. I want to get a 20 gallon but I probably will just stick with the 10 gallon since he will be moving into a pond soon. I'm new to turtles and am just starting to learn. I'm trying my best so please be patient with me.

Will I need to purchase another lamp that clamps to the side for heating or does that UV light work for heating and UV?

I have a lot of questions but have been helped out a lot by this site and other people. Thanks so much! I just wanted to double check these are all the correct things before going to the pet store. I'm also getting river rocks from the dollar store or walmart or a store like that. I can't wait to see it come together!

Nes -- Make sure your basking light has uvb rays. Your filter should pump at least 5 times or more of the amount of water you have in the tank. You will need to check the gph - gallons per hour of your filer. b.

That light will work for UVB but you will need a seperate light for heat/basking.

You can use a tube fluorescent bulb or a compact one, the compact ones use easier fixtures. Be ware of the "preset" water heaters, they are usually rated for a specific tank size and may not work optimally over time. I'd just go with a regular aquarium tank heater, like a sheath one, they are inexpensive and can have a dial on it so you can set it and monitor it yourself. And if you don't have rocks setup like that near a waterfall style filter (which we don't recommend stacking rocks unless they are glued together), the water will evaporate quickly (I'm just warning you). Sounds like you have a plan, hopefully it'll all come together well.

The small basking platform is good for turtles up to 3 inches (due to my own experience), so that one should be good for the next six months. My little fatty makes the the whole thing sink. Mini-sized would be too small.
