I bought a 50 gallon tank in a yard sale and wanted to know how I should clean it to make it ready for my turtles. Are there any products I should stay away from?

Whatever you do, don't use soap of any kind. It can be very difficult to get all the soap residue off.

Depending on how scungie it looks, you can do:
Warm water and lots of elbow grease
(diluted) vinegar
A very diluted bleach solution. I think the ratio is 1 part bleach to 10 parts water, but don't quote me on it. Do a forum search on "bleach" to find out for sure.

For the latter two cleaning options, the key is rinsing, then rinsing, then rinsing some more. Rinse until you don't smell the vinegar/bleach anymore, then rinse some more. It's also good to let tank air dry for 24 hours before you put your turtle in, and that way you can be sure all the remaining bleach is gone.

I haven't had a used tank before, but I cleaned my two new tanks with vinegar and water, and just rinsed it out before I filled them up.
