Does anyone else scoop poop throughout the week in addition to the weekly cleaning? Is this better for your RES' health?

IF your filter is large enough and the water is moving fast enough it will pick up most of the poop. Your filter should pump 5 times the water volume in a hour. Again think in terms of gph.

The intake strainer on my filter isn't big enough for their turds, so ya, I scoop.

My turtles usually get to it before I can. But scooping certainly does help keep the water quality up.

My turtle recently started pooping on his dock and will bask next to it. Yuk. I guess he's trying to keep the water cleaner but it's not working since I rinse his dock in the tank and then scoop.

I scoop just about daily with a net and follow up with a little hand-held battery powered gravel vac. There's one big minnow in the tank and he helps with clean-up duty but it's more than he can handle.

What brand of gravel vac do you have?? I just bought one from Petco but it doesn't seem to work

Here's what I use. Someone on here recommended it and I've been using it for a year and love it:

It's not expensive but only lasts for a few months before it breaks, so I buy several at a time. Also, the little vacuum cleaner bags get disgusting pretty fast so I usually get a dozen of them.

Thanks, Spotsmama! I am a big fan of DrsFostersmith (I also have 3 dogs and a cat) - - didn't think to look there for turtle stuff!
I am like you - I will buy several of items I know I keep using - I am going to check this product out

Spotsmama - How does that cleaner work? The picture on the site looks odd. Does it really just suck out the nasty stuff and leave the rocks and water? I'm looking for something to vacuum the bottom of my tank to get those last little nasty bits that settle that the filter doesn't pick up ...
