i have a 10 gallon tank and a baby res right now and i was wondering if i could get a higher watt heater? like 250? can i set the temperture? incase of upgrading tank in the future? and does it burn my turtle when it doesnt have a cover? thanks : )

I think it would be a bit much as well. If you're concerned about your turtle betting burned (they won't), you could always buy a heater guard.

You could buy it an try. It should turn off when it reaches the right temp, but make sure you have a good thermometer in there so you can keep an eye on it.

You are going to have to upgrade your tank either way. 10 gallons is . The stealth heaters don't get very warm when it is under water. If you take it out of the water it can burn up and break. You can touch it just fine when it is one underwater and is usually only slightly warm.

rap-20 -- Good question about the 250 watt heater. First of all the tank is extremely small and the heater is too big for the tank. I don't like doing anything too quickly with my turtles. This heater will heat the water very fast and the small tank will cool fast also. The thermostat will be working is fanny off cutting off and on with that little water, greatly reducing it's life. If you are going to get a larger tank soon and this will hold you over, try it. Just don't expect it to last very long.
