Just wondering if it's possible to use childrens play sand as a tank substrate in a 55 gallon tank without any adverse affects to the turtles and filters?

It's difficult, but you can do it. First, the sand has to be the non-dusty kind and rinsed really really well. And you have to watch that your turtle isn't getting bored and eating it, because they can become impacted. Other than that, most people say it's difficult to maintain because it's rather messy, for both the filter and the tank.

after separating my turtles i found miscellaneous sand in the new tank that hank was pooping out for a good month and i don't even use sand as a substrate in the water, there's just little bits of it there from use in the dry land area...
