My current heater doesn't seem to regulate consistently so I'm looking to get a better one. I keep seeing people recommend the Stealth Heaters so I'm going to go with that. I was wondering though, from those who have them, do you recommend a heater guard? I have one on my current heater because the heating element is warm to the touch and I don't want to take any chances. Just wondered about the Stealth Heaters.

Secondly, I'm going to get a canister filter. Any brand suggestions? Also I have a 55 gallon tank with about 40 gallons in it, what size should I get?

Thanks,

i hear stealth heaters r the way to go but i dont have one yet so i dont know if u need a guard.

but i also have a 55 gal tank. i need to figureout just how much water is in it. but the xp3 seems to be the best for our size. the GPH of a filter should be about 3 times more then the gallonage of your tank.

I own both a Stealth heater and a Rena XP3 canister filter - blown away by how great both of these products are.

The Stealth heaters already have a guard around them, they're virtually indestructible (heck, I accidentally dropped mine onto bare concrete flooring from about 4 1/2 feet off the ground).

And the XP3, great filter, fairly simple to setup and cleaning is super easy. Not to mention my crystal clear water. And the price you can find these online, is just incredible.

Bigals will have both of those products for dirt cheap.

But unfortunately, if you're outside of the states bigals won't ship to you. So if you're Canadian like me - next best place to get those products for as cheap as possible is JLaquatics.

Fry-86 – Some heaters can be a pain. I just had a round or two with a couple of heaters. Stealth is a good one. I use a Fluval. Heater guards are always a good idea any time you have glass. My turtles have broken a couple in past years. CANISTERS ?? There are several that are good. I use Marineland and Fluval. Both are good and are easy to clean. The Maineland 350 or 360 and that is the gph. The Fluval 405 pumps about 300 gph. You need to have one that pumps 5 times the water volume that the tank has in it.
