Hi Everyone,

I'm the proud owner of two beautiful female RES that are just starting to exhibit gravid behavior, and already I'm a worried wreck. I'm bound and determined to make a nesting area in the tank and I wanted to share a few examples I found. I actually posted these at the end of another thread but I thought they were such great ideas I wanted to start a new topic

This is the one I think I could actually do... but I would raise it more towards the top and build an above tank basking area.

This one seems a bit more realisitc (in terms of adaptability)..

Here's one that glasscages.com sells..They customize so you could get the "land area" made deeper.

I like the idea of using the clean sand because even if she drags some back into the tank, it wouldn't be hard to syphon out. Not to mention the idea of giving them a more "natural" environment.
Definetly has me thinking that this could be done after all. With two females just entering the egg-laying game, having something inside the tank certainly would make thier lives better, not too mention reduce my worrying. I think I would still do something like this even if I had males.

This is very interesting. I hadn't seen anything like it before. If you try it, please keep us posted on how it goes.

ya i really like glasscages.com they make awsome premade turtle tanks

i think your right about the sand though... moist sand or dirt is what they would probably want to lay in in the first place...

this is exactly the type of thing i was asking about. thanks for the link to glasscages. i was going to build my own i didnt knwo there was a site that did it. i'll have to check them out.

i have a 55 gal tank and i was planing on just making or buying some kind of container that would take up a little less then half the lenth of the tank and setting it up so there would be swimming room under it. then using some kind of float as a means of gettin onto the land. but now im going to look into this website.

EDIT: hmmm seems they dont just sell the basking setup. i think im still going to custom make one, but that site gave me some good ideas.

I agree Spotsmama. When I came across them I thought they were on to something. I am going to use the 20 gal I have (which I had tried to make into a nesting area with dirt/sand) and attempt to do something like the second or last one. We'll see how that goes (if it actually holds, and of course, if they like it). I will keep you posted. I sure hope it does the job.
Wish me luck!

i think ive finally settled on a set up for my tank. im goign to build a platform out of plexiglass and set some kind of container with soil and a flat rock on there.

i'll take pictures once its set up and post them. im hoping this works cause i live in an apartment and i dont exactly know how i would do the seperate laying box.
