A lot of people on this forum have Stealth Heaters. They are a pretty nice brand. I don't think they are the best money can buy though.

Tronic heaters are also supposed to be good, though I've never used them before. Ebo Jager is good too, but some die-hard fish keepers think the quality is no longer top-notch.

The thermostat on one of my Stealths (I have a total of 4) seems to have malfunctioned and won't turn off. I think they have a lifetime warranty... gotta go dig up that info...

Looks like i will be going with the Hydor ETH 300 External Heater and the Fluval FX5 guys.

The older Stealth's I think say "lifetime waranty" on the box. The newer ones I'm not sure make that claim anymore.

I've never used the in-line heater you mentioned, but I've read of keepers on other forums liking it.

My newest heater is a 200-watt Ebo-Jager, and it's doing a wonderful job keeping the water in a 100-gallon stock tank with about 80 gallons of water in it in a very cool basement at the very temp it's set for (72F). I had bought two, but after reading that one is good for up to 90 gallons, I may put in the other one only if the weather gets a lot colder. I've read about the supposed decline of the Ebo-Jager quality, but the product has been taken over by Eheim, so I wonder how much Eheim would let the quality suffer. I sometimes think getting a good heater is the luck of the draw to some extent. I have a 4-year-old Tronic that still works just fine as well.

Just to let everyone know, my brand new stealth heater still says lifetime warranty, and thats about a week old, so yes they still advertise a lifetime.

Whatever you get just make sure that it is NOT glass. I had a glass heater for 1 day and it broke in the tank! It was a huge pain to clean and I cut my finger in the process, luckily I got Murphy out of the tank unscathed.

I had a question about heaters:

The stealth is totally plastic unbreakable he can bite it, but hes not going to hurt himself anymore than biting some other thing in the tank, you definately need a heater to keep the water set at the right temp either go with the stealth or they make a heater for reptiles with a guard but its not adjustable its just set to 78 I like to have it be adjustable
