just wondering. i give mine drinking water. does that mean i dont have to worry about using water conditioners?

Is the drinking water city water that's been treated with chlorine/chloramines? If so, using a dechlorinator would be good.

BTW, what's the difference between normal tap water and water that's safe for us to drink???

just a note, if your tap water either uses chlorine or chloramine, you need to use a dechlorinator or water conditioner. Chlorine evaporates over a period of time and would be safe to use afterwards, but chloramine does not evaporate. You need the conditioner to neutralize the chloramine. Untreated, chloramine will still irritate your turtle's eyes and possibly destroy beneficial bacteria if you are using any bio-media with your filter.

chloramine is becomming popular in treated city water because it does not evaporate.

Some places Tap water is not safe to drink. For example; most of Southern, CA. You can drink it but it will make you feel none to good after words. You should see the water aisle at the grocery stores. (yes they have and entire aisle just for bottled water)

Oh yeah, i use tap with conditioner.

A S.CA resident here. It's not like that at every grocery store? I've been to other parts of the country, but I guess I never paid any attention to grocery stores. I just thought it was like this everywhere.

Yes, it's like that in New England as well. All kinds of bottled water to choose from (although some brands dominate regionally).

As far as tap water being safe, I always thought that if it were supplied by the city, it would be tested and deemed safe to drink (that doesn't mean it would taste good, though).

The water at the house here comes from a well and it's terrible, although going through a water softner does improve it somewhat. There's a public spring about 15 miles from here that has great water and people come from all over the area to fill containers of it. I do a weekly run (sometimes twice) for water, mainly for drinking, cooking and, of course, the turts.

I use spring water, but since I'm about to get a 55, I'm going to have to use tap water.

i use well water it's pretty good

I use water straight from my tap, we have well water. I used one of the strips with 5 tests on it and straight out of the faucet the water is nearly perfect. Soft water (we have no softener on it) 7.2 PH and other things I can't remember .. I'm tired so yeah. But I haven't had problems with it.

We had well water where we use to live, but now our water has tons of crude in it.

Even though I have well water should I still use conditionar?When it rains or water tastes horible so I am scared for my turtle.

I use tap water from the city, and as far as I know, it's fine to drink, because I've drank it before and it's fine, so I'm pretty sure it's safe for my turtle, Leo.

You can never be too sure about tap water. I use tap water with a conditioner.
I've learned that tap water is treated more than bottled water or so my science teacher said...

My mom used tap water when she set up an aquarium once, the water had some chemical in it and it killed all the fish within a day. Treat the water.

Chloramine is a big headache for fish enthusiasts.

I think the tap water for NYC gets tested several hundred times a year. Also, there are no significant federal laws regarding bottled water, so you never know what you are getting.
