Would these be a good kind of plastic plant for the turtles? http://www.bigalsonline.com/BigAlsUS/ct ... irgrassmd9 . Or some of the other ones bigals has? I don't want the turtles eating them or anything. And if they are nice to get, how would you recommend getting them to stay at the bottom of the tank? Or do you recommend any other plastic plants for the tank?

Some turtles will try to eat anything...even plastic. However I've personally not heard of one managing to actually eat it, LOL!

I plan on using silicone to keep a few plants on the bottom of the new tank. Haven't actually done it yet, but can't imagine using silicone to stick the bottom of the plant to the bottom of the tank would be a problem. I'm also thinking it may be better to silicone the plant to a few pieces of flat slate I have, then I can silicone a couple river rocks around the plant base too. Just some ideas I've had.

One plastic plant I DO have is a reptile plant that uses a suction cup to stick the the side of the tank. Our hatchling LOVES to rest in the leaves just under the surface & rest, or hunt for fish that use the leaves to hide in.

they have plants that you can snap on to rocks to hold on bottom of tank i will post a couple of pics for you they sell sell theses at pet smart they sell different size rock combos and different plants I forgot the name brand of these plants and rock but they work well.

i also use plants that have suction cups for top of tank floaters to keep them in place they also sell these at petsmart in the reptile supplies.or tou can get them here

THIS GIVES THEM A NICE PLACE TO HANG OUT AT THE TOP OF TANK AND REST AND MY TURTS SLEEP IN THEM, THEY GET SNUG AS A BUG IN THEM

YOUR WELCOME! They also carry small plants that are weighted to stay on bottom of tank with out gravel. GOOD LUCK. can't wait to see pics.

My turtles LOVE them, and they are always pulling the suction cups off so that they can just float around the tank!

never put fake plants in your turtle tank real ones are 4 dollars at the most

my turtles would never be able to rest and sleep on the real plants like they do now and to keep real plants healthy and growing requires a great deal of attention and special lighting. plus they will totally eat and kill all plants anyway I will buy live plants and put them in as food every so often. and I always have fresh romaine lettuce in tank at all times I put fresh leaves in every 2 days they eat mostly all parts of the leaves and leave the rib most of the time . As for the fake plants they really love to sleep in them and they are pretty good support for them even when they get a little bigger. And price is definitely not an issue not after all the money this hobby cost me !

DIANT, lots of people put fake plants in their turtle tanks and it works out real well for the turtles (they like to hide in them or rest in them) and they give interest to the tank. Turtles will almost always tear up living plants so if your intent is to feed your turtles, then that's fine but if you want something to make the tank pretty and give the turtle something to do then the real ones don't work.
