hola, hey i noticed that the small river rocks in the tank, some rocks, have gotten like a brown tint on them. like algae... the turtle dock seems to be growing this brown algae as well, with some green on it. i think the brown tint had to deal the amount of poo-poo in the tank. its not in direct sunlight, and i only have one bulb on top. is it algae? is it poop? its not like a heavy amount or anything, the tank looks normal. so....i dont know...any help would be great, later...

its algae. i have the same thing in my tank but my pleco and snail keep it under control. if it bothers you you can always take the rocks out and scrub them with a new toothbrush. is the bulb an MVB?

the bulb is a 75 watt soft white bulb made by ge. from like target or something. i got a 10 gallon tank, maybe another fish would crowd it up. plus, the turtle will just attack and eat it. if it doesnt bother me, can i just leave them there and clean them when i change the water and do all that stuff? thanks for the response, any more would be greatly appreciated. later...

leaving it in there would be fine. you need to get a uvb bulb in addition the one you have though.

I leave the algae on my basking dock. I scrub some of it off every once in a while if it gets to be too much, but since it's right under the basking lights it's really a losing battle so for the most part I let it go. Leo actually likes clawing at it and eating it.

The brown-tinted algae sounds like it could be diatoms, which can develop when there's a lack of lighting. Add a UVB light (it won't increase the heat because it's flourescent).

To get the algae off the dock, use the metal SOS things. They work great.

Is there any harm in your turt eating the algae? .. no right? .. Just making sure..

im sure turtles eat lots of algae in ponds and whatnot right?
