i know that its typical for a male to flutter a female. but when they both flutter each other at the same time is that a sign of you know? eggs! ive looked it the forum but was unsuccessful in my search. should i need to start getting supplies, and doing more research into how to care for eggs and hachlings, or not worrie about it yet? any info would help or links about this topic.

thanks in advance! :)

Here's a link on the subject and the pages contains links to other sites that also have good info:

Fluttering in and of itself doesn't mean reproduction is about to take place. Even little tiny turtle do it. Males and females both do it. It can mean aggressiveness, territoriality and also it is part of a mating ritual. Turtles don't mature reproductively until the male is at least 4" long and the female at least around 5" long.

Sounds like you do need to do some reading!

You didn't ask about it but I'm going to volunteer something. If you're turtles were only born last December and they are already as big as they are then they are growing too fast. You might read up also on the nuitrition section and see if any adjustments need to be made to their diet.

One more thing - males and females can definitely be aggressive to each other. Usually the male harrasses the female until the female can't stand it any more and she fights back. Since the females are bigger then can do a lot of damage. Keep a close eye out. Or if the male starts acting shy it may be that he's been intimidated by the female.

yes i know, when i got them i was given wrong info on feeding them. i was told to give them 4 meal worms a day each plus a teaspoon each of pellets plus shrimp ever two days. then i joined this forum and trust me their diet HAS changed. i feed then pellets once a day, amount on bigger than their head, plus live plants and veggies accouding to this site. once a week then get 2 mealworms and every 3-4 days they get shrimp. on those days i reduce the amount of pellets. since i started this the skin around their shell no longer puffs out.

Usually if the female is also fluttering, its a form of aggression.

My female will flutter back out of exasperation occasionally. I think she might be going "See! see! claws in the face! Claws in the face! How do you like it BUb?"
