I did a Ph test and was wondering if this was normal
I dont think it is


Its basicly 7.6 the water looks darker blue cause of the camera

Im not sure what my nitrate etc. levels are but i think this will make them 0 right?

i used a mini test that does the pH nitrite ammonia hardness and so on because i keep my fishies

for my turtle i only use a chlorine remover

natural, non acidic/non basic pure water is 7.0, so this is good. A pH between 6-8 is recommended.

Dont the variables between the numbers make a big difference in the acidity?

well, 8 is 10x as basic as a ph of 7, it's not as much a difference as it seems, because 5 is 100x more acidic than 7 is, it goes up a power of 10 for each unit; and it's better for your turtles to be more on the basic (higher numbers) side than the acidic; although 7 is optimal.

That test looks like an Aquarium Pharmeceuticals test. Did you get the kit that has tests for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and ph? If so, that kit also has a high ph test. Since your ph result is reading as high as it will go on the scale, you can't tell how much higher than 7.6 the ph really is. If you've got the high ph test, why don't you check it too.

I first checked ph in Spot's tank using the regular ph test and it read at the top of the scale. I then ran the high ph test and it read at around 8.8. So I really didn't get a clear picture from the "regular" test.

If your turtle is having shell or skin fungus problems, lowering the ph to around 7 or just a bit lower should help as low ph is inhospitable for fungus. That's one of the things I do for Spot since he's had a problem with shell fungus.

I use supplies from the chem lab at my school to test, and sometimes my research prof. allows me to bring in water and test it for ammonia, nitrates, etc. since my research project has to do with testing environmental samples, I already have the equipment in my lab.

It might be interesting to do a lab test using that conditioner you bought at petsmart to see how how much it actually removes and what other chemicals it leaves in the water.

There's a test kit that you can get from PetSmart for like $8. It tests for nitrate, nitrite, total hardness, total chlorine, total alkalinity, and pH. It's called Quick Dip Aquarium multi-test Kit by Jungle. It's one test strip for all six tests and it has a comparison chart with the good, okay, and bad ranges marked on it.

7.6 pH is fine for RES.

Amquel is fine.

You want the nitrate level no higher than 40ppm, and the closer it is to 0, the better.

i have that same test kit. you might want to do a high range ph test since its at 7.6 just be safe. i tested my water and got 7.6, then i did the high range to be safe and it was 8.
