learned a little, i wanted to get the gorilla glue/primmer clear in one non toxic/oderless but no one in ct carries it. so i found out what i want is lo VOC, which the 2 cans i have primmer/paint are, but i want a clear primmer, the one above i posted isnt a lo VOC, so i found this one, http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R ... reId=10051.

awaiting for the store to call em back and tell me they have it and i will go get that instead and start working on this project!

I'm not speaking with much experience in this area, but I don't think there is any sanding and I've only seen the purple oateys as primer too.

they did have the one above that is clear (the primmer) so i went and bought it brought it home and used it. i did sand paper a little with 320 grit, but then seen it was melting a little with the glue (one piece had a little piece of price sticker on it and i was trying to remove it with my nail after i put the cement on and my nail was leaving groves in it.) so i figured the light sanding wasn't needed. went back to home depot for 2 more removable unions (i had the intakes for the filters on 2 unions for each canister but i didn't have any underneith the tank intake tubes so that completed it now, makes it easier with all the npt fittings and twisting) and a couple more fittings. all the gluing is done. started on doing the npt's with teflon, but ran out of time, had to do some other things (non aquarium related) i hope to get it up and running today. we shall see. will take pics of the plumbing when its done.

All you need is the cement for the PVC. You only really need the cleaner and primer for cpvc (you're not using that) pressure systems. The cement already contains a solvent to soften the PVC prior to solvent welding the two pieces together.

The cleaner and the primer are the same solvent with the primer having a dye usually purple for building inspectors to see. Again, for low pressure drains and what you're doing, all you need is the cement. And the red can is plenty good enough.
